Marta Castelo is graduated in Sculpture by Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (1980). She is finishing her PhD in Sculpture and is Ceramics professor in the same faculty. She did an exchange by the Erasmus program in “Universität der Kunst Berlin”, in 2004/2005. She developed artistic residencies in ceramics sculpture in Oficinas do Convento, Montemor-o-novo, between 2006 and 2018. In 2010/2011, Marta Castelo finished a Postgraduation Course in Photography, Project and Contemporary Art, organized by Atelier de Lisboa and IPA. Her work mobilizes raw and/or fired clay as a way to explore the relationship between nature and construction, as well as to think about the notions of ephemeral and fixation. She was selected for the Anteciparte awards in 2006 and has been participating in various exhibitions, both individual and collective, since 2008.

(11th of May 2019). Organization of Conversations about Bricks, an international symposium about bricks and artistic creation, at Telheiro da Encosta do Castelo, in Montemor-o-Novo, and presentation of the lecture Em Construção / In Constrution in the same context.
(28th of July to 28th of August 2018). Participation in the exhibition Ensaio Sobre a Terra with the work Labor.
(May 2018). Art-in-residence at Oficinas do Convento, in Montemor-o-Novo.
(29th of November to 29th of December 2017 & 24th of March to 28th of April 2018). Curator with João Rolaça of two exhibitions called Entre Mãos, one organized in the gallery of Fine Arts Lisbon University and other in the Municipality Gallery of Montemor-o-Novo.
(2nd of March to 9th of March 2018). Participation in the humor líquido exhibition, called The Moving North | A Primavera vem do Norte, curated by Carolina Rodrigues, Maxilla Space, London.
