Helena Elias is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon (FBAUL). She was awarded with a PhD in Public Art, Faculty of Fine Arts of Barcelona (2007), in the area of Sculpture, an MArts, Grays School of Arts, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK (2000) and a BFA (hons)in Sculpture, FBAUL (1999). Previously, she was an FCT Postdoctoral Fellow in Sculpture at FBAUL_VICARTE. As artist, teacher and researcher, she articulates the teaching and artistic practice, exhibiting her work and publishing various articles, workshops, book chapters. She coordinates the VICARTE Research in Arts and Sciences line, where she develops the Communities of Practice project – methodological strategies for collaborative research between the arts and sciences. She is a member of ÉBANO Collective and currently, she integrates the creative Europe project 616850-CREA-1-2020-1-IT-CULT-COOP1 PTM – Pass the Mic! Decolonizing education through arts, as an artistic researcher. She is also a member and artist in residence of the Project Photo Impulse: measuring the colonies, funded by FCT. In the past she has coordinated several research projects such as Public art within the Portuguese-Brazilian cultural relationships from the New State to Democracy.
