Experiments in Art Practice-based Research within Hybrid Landscapes

Paths of experimentation

The boundaries between physical and digital worlds are creatively merged in hybrid environments, combining craft knowledge with new technologies like 3D and AI tools to co-create artefacts. Research focuses on understanding materials through their interactions and exploring innovative methods like 3D printing for glass and ceramics to develop sustainable materials and technologies for artistic practice. Future training courses will incorporate digital-analogue methods, following artistic research guidelines.

The research also addresses decolonization of cultural heritage, moving beyond a Eurocentric perspective by studying artistic practices and the embodied knowledge of makers. Through cross-disciplinary dialogue we explore the relationship between images and materials.  This approach includes reinterpreting traditional techniques, as preserving the craft knowledge of glassworkers from Marinha Grande to integrate traditional expertise into contemporary glass art, design, and training projects.
