Art, Science and Materiality

VICARTE will rethink materiality in artistic creation and research through reflexive practice. From this, we promote a transversal perspective on the agency of matter in the creative environment, giving materials the status of subjects.
Research efforts are planned to develop feasible alternative solutions for more sustainable futures and circular economy approaches. VICARTE will focus on the development of alternative colorants and the incorporation of industrial waste and natural materials into the production of glass and ceramics. These solutions will contribute to carbon neutrality, while also reducing energy consumption associated with the use of high-temperature furnaces.
The integration of digital processes and technologies in the manufacture of glass and ceramics will impact various contexts of artistic production. Our research will demonstrate their worth, applicability and scalability of emerging technologies and their transferability potential across art and craft. We will reinterpret traditional techniques, contributing to the transmission of this knowledge for the sustainable development of communities.
