The research unit VICARTE – Glass and Ceramic for the Arts has once again been awarded the highest rating of 5.0 in the most recent evaluation (2023/2024 R&D Units evaluation process)  by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), for the period 2018–2023. 

With this result, VICARTE maintains its status as an excellent research unit for the third consecutive evaluation cycle, reinforcing its position as a national and international reference in the intersection of science, art, cultural heritage, and technological innovation. Since 2014, the unit has consistently received the maximum score in every FCT evaluation, celebrating a decade of excellence.

The evaluation panel highlighted the exceptional quality of the research carried out, the robustness of the scientific strategy, and the unit’s significant societal and cultural impact. The global relevance of VICARTE’s specialised laboratory infrastructure was also recognised, as well as its active collaboration with museums, cultural institutions, and communities.

This result is a source of great institutional pride, reflecting the commitment, dedication, and excellence of all researchers, technicians, and students involved in VICARTE, and of the institutions that host it: the Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCT) and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL).

VICARTE continues to lead in the creation of knowledge at the crossroads of glass and ceramics, bridging past and future through a transdisciplinary approach that combines research, practice, and innovation.
