João Pedro Veiga is an Associate Professor at the Conservation and Restoration Department, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Portugal. Integrated Member of CENIMAT/i3N research center (FCT NOVA) where he is Responsible for the Structural Materials Group and the XRF-WDS Analytical Laboratory. His main scientific research activity is crystal chemistry and structural analysis, namely on ceramic, vitreous and petrous materials from cultural heritage (PhD in 2006). Expertise includes x-ray absorption techniques such as XANES and EXAFS using Synchrotron Radiation in large scale European research facilities, x-ray diffraction and x-ray fluorescence. Author/coauthor of more than 60 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Responsible in several national and European projects. Member of the Editorial Board of the MDPI Heritage Journal. Member of the Cultural Heritage Working Group of EMRS (European Materials Research Society).
